 Why buy from us?

Comments from Dave's Garden:
I just ordered four Cedars of Lebanon trees from Kigi and am very impressed by the whole order and mailing process. Once I placed my order, I received a confirmation email and several follow-up emails that my order was shipped and an estimated arrival date.

The trees were in perfect condition, looking very healthy and vibrant. Most of all, the shipping rate was reasonable, something that is very difficult to find from nurseries near and far from my home state.

I am an avid miniature gardener, always looking for plants and trees for them. Kigi will be on my list for future orders. spoogedog Lunenburg, MA

I ordered two cedars and two dwarf norway spruces. They arrived very quickly and were in exceptional condition even in the heat. Root systems were healthy and not too rootbound at all. Roots are very important and sometimes when mail ordering you can receive very matted roots. These were just right. They seem to be very robust. Frank1965 Shreveport, LA

Officially In business since 2005 we have been collecting rare plants for many more years. Japanese Gardening has long been our driving force behind the mix of plants we offer, however we are now offering many of the European and Native varieties, for the beauty they can add to the Japanese and Fairy Gardens that are so popular today. Things like Hosta, Heather, Grasses and many Ferns are great filler plants to any garden. Bonsai ready plant material with our future focus being mainly Dwarf and miniature Conifers, these great trees have many other uses such as Alpine Gardens, rock Gardens, Train or Railroad Gardens, Japanese Gardens, trough and patio planters.... these are great for many other landscape plantings, our roots are stocky and ready for your great gardens! Most of our trees are bonsai ready and waiting for their new master. If you are looking for a particular use, just leave us a note in checkout for us to pick a particular form of your liking. We may suggest something in stock that is just exceptional for your potted plant or landscape needs.  Thanks for viewing our website and again don't hesitate to ask questions. If you are local and would like a Free Landscape Evaluation fill out the form on the About Us.(Southwest Washington State Only)

General Care For Japanese Maples, Dwarf Conifers, Ginkgos, and Bamboo

Top 5 Q & A:

1) The question we get asked the most is "When should I plant my new tree?" Simply stated if the ground is not frozen or overly hot, you are best to plant right away. Spring and Fall are typically the best seasons to plant Japanese Maple and Conifer Varieties, but with proper mulching and hole preparation, it can be done year round. Take extra care for dwarf and miniature maples and conifers as roots are everything when young or small.

2) "Is it ok to grow this tree in a container?" We have chosen to grow nursery stock that is generally good for both container and landscape, with that said you need to understand a tree in a container can not survive in the same growing mix as a tree in the ground. A container tree needs to be open and free of compaction. Here in the Northwest we like a good chunky Fir or Pine bark mixed with pumice, perlite, coco coir... each person likes to create their own mix, and really it just matters most about your climate and watering practices. When creating garden scenes such as Fairy Gardens, trough gardens, or Bonsai, you will want to mix your soil to your particular use.

3) "Where is the best place to plant this plant or that tree?" Each of our listed products have Other Details tab to show you sun exposure, 10 year height, hardiness zone, and growth habit. Once again we strongly encourage the use of mulch to keep roots a consistent temperature.

4) "What is your recommended fertilizer?" This is different by far for each type of tree or plant. We don't recommend fertilizers until your new plantings have established some strong root growth, second season after transplanting, we like to use general purpose low nitrogen organic fertilizers after that. B vitamins are ok to use the first season.

5) "How should I prepare my soil for planting?" Organic mulch mixed 50/50 with your native soil is always a good rule of thumb. If your soil is very sandy then mix 75% organic mulch, if it is hard clay mix in some gypsum and build the soil up 1-2 feet to help improve the drainage.
